A new garage door in Massachusetts costs $1,195 to $3,495 installed for a single-car door (8x7 or 9x7), and $2,495 to $5,995 installed for a two-car door (16x7). Custom carriage-house and full-view aluminum doors run higher. Pricing includes the door, hardware, weather-stripping, removal of the old door, and a full safety test of the spring system.

What drives the price (low to high):

1. Material (largest single variable). Non-insulated steel: $1,195-$1,795 single, $2,495-$3,295 double. Insulated steel (R-9 to R-13): $1,495-$2,395 single, $2,995-$4,295 double. Premium insulated steel (R-16 to R-19): $1,995-$2,995 single, $3,795-$5,195 double. Wood overlay or carriage-house composite: $2,495-$4,495 single, $4,295-$7,995 double. Full-view aluminum-and-glass: $3,495-$6,995 single, $5,995-$11,995 double.

2. Insulation. R-value matters more in New England than in milder climates. Insulated doors keep the garage 15-25°F warmer in winter, which protects pipes, paint cans, and cars in attached garages. Insulated doors also operate more quietly. We default-quote insulated doors on every Massachusetts install unless the garage is detached and unconditioned.

3. Style. Standard raised-panel: lowest cost. Recessed-panel (flush, modern): +$100-$300. Carriage-house overlay (decorative trim mimicking swing-out doors): +$300-$800. Custom paint match: +$200-$500.

4. Window inserts. Decorative windows in the top panel add $150-$650 depending on glass type (clear, frosted, decorative cathedral pattern).

5. Hardware upgrades. Standard galvanized hardware is included. Black powder-coated hardware (popular on carriage-house designs): +$75-$150. Stainless steel hardware (recommended for coastal MA homes near Salem, Peabody, etc. where salt air corrodes standard galvanized): +$200-$400.

6. Opener (if combined). A new opener is often installed alongside a new door. Belt-drive opener: $399-$599 installed. Smart Wi-Fi opener with battery backup: $599-$899 installed. Jackshaft (wall-mount, frees ceiling space): $895-$1,295.

What's included in our installed quote: door, all hardware, weather-stripping (top, sides, bottom), removal and disposal of the old door, opener disconnect/reconnect, complete safety test, and a 5-year workmanship warranty plus the manufacturer warranty.

What can vary the install: non-standard rough opening (we measure and frame if needed, +$150-$400), torsion spring conversion from old extension-spring system (+$95-$195), opener relocation (+$95-$195).
