A standard residential garage door spring replacement in Massachusetts costs $185 to $395. The most common scenario — a single torsion spring on a standard 8x7 or 9x7 residential door — falls in the $185-$245 range. A pair of springs on a double-wide door (16x7) typically runs $295-$395. These prices include parts, labor, and a balance check.
What drives the price:
Spring type. Torsion springs (mounted above the door) cost more than older extension springs but last 2-3x as long and are safer to operate. We always quote torsion replacements when the door is configured for them. High-cycle torsion springs (25,000+ cycles, double the standard 10,000-cycle lifespan) add $30-$60 to the job but pay for themselves within 5-7 years.
Door size. Residential single-car doors (8x7, 9x7) use lighter springs and cost less. Double-wide doors (16x7) require heavier-gauge springs that cost more in materials. Oversize and commercial doors price separately.
One spring or both. If only one of two springs has snapped, we strongly recommend replacing both. They're paired for balance and the second is usually within months of failing. Doing both at once costs $80-$120 less than two separate service calls.
Service area. We don't charge travel fees within our 35-mile Massachusetts service ring. Same price in Chelmsford, Lowell, Andover, Acton, Concord, or any of the 150+ MA towns we cover.
What's included in our quote: the springs themselves (high-grade industrial), labor, balance test, lubrication of moving hardware, opener safety check, and a clear walkthrough of the warranty. No surprise upcharges, no add-ons we didn't quote.
Warning on suspiciously low quotes: some companies advertise $69 or $89 spring replacements as a hook, then add $200+ in surprise charges on-site ("specialty spring fee," "high-cycle upgrade," "safety kit"). Our quoted price is the price you pay.
